Hunter Bailey Takes Super Stock Four Cyl Special

Elm City, NC – A perfect spring day greeted fans and teams as they arrived at Elm City’s County Line Raceway Saturday afternoon.  The weekly racing series presented by Lee Motor Group featured five divisions of racing action were on the action packed schedule and the fans would not leave disappointed.  The evening started by crowning the new Ms County Line Raceway for the 2015 season.  Congratulations to Elm City's Alisha Bullock for taking the crown.

The Super Stock Four Cylinder was the first division to take to the track in their first special event of the season paying $600 to the victor.  Hunter Bailey would be the fastest qualifier turning the 3/8ths mile clay oval in 17.206 seconds, James Manning would be second quickest, setting up the front row for the evening’s 20 lap main event.  Bailey would lead the field to green but it would be short lived as two cars would spin in turn three on the first lap.  Bailey, still the leader would bring the field to the restart.  Bailey would set sail with a sizable lead until trouble with lap traffic almost cost him the race on lap 16 when another caution waved for the 47 of Glenn Bottoms who spun in front of the leader.  Bailey would hold on to the lead and win his second race of the young season.  James Manning would take home second followed by Damien Bryant, Jason Horne and Austin Holcombe rounding out the top five.

Pure Stock V-8 was next onto the track.  Phillip Lamm and Kevin Beard would lead the field to green based on their heat race features earlier in the night.  Only one caution would slow the 15 lap main event for the 41 of Austin Ferrell on lap 3.  Phillip Lamm would go on to victory, his second of the season.  Kevin Beard finished second followed by Gary Whitley, Amanda Liles, and Paul Peele rounding out the top five.

The ARCO Restoration Limited Sportsman was the next division to take the track.  Matthew Bissette and John Proctor led the field to green for the 20 lap feature event.  Bissette jumped out to a quick lead but Proctor was not backing down.  A caution would bunch the field back up on lap four for a spin in turn four by the 88 of Melvin Edmondson.  Back green Bissette retained the lead.  On lap 13, misfortunes for the 90 of Proctor as he pulled to the pits with mechanical issues.  Bissette would go on to take the checkers first, however during post race technical inspection a part from the 23 car was found to not meet the track’s benchmark disqualifying him from the race.  Skeeter Liles would be credited with the win, his first of the season followed by points leader Mark Boykin in second, James Meredith third, Walt Gibson fourth and Mevlin Edmondson fifth.

The DRU Auto Sales & Service Pure Stock Four Cylinders roared to life next.  Brent Atkinson and Bobby Crawford were on the front row leading the field to green for their 15 lap main event.  At the drop of the green flag it was Atkinson to the point but they were three wide in turn two for the lead on lap 1.  Atkinson would lead the first lap.  There were battles all over the track until a caution on lap 8 slowed the field for a spin in turn four by the 17 of Lee Hardie and the 62 of Jason Adams.  Back green another caution would wave on the next lap for the 16 of Cooper Edwards who also spun in turn four, retiring the 16 to the pits for the rest of the evening.  Two other single car spins would slow the field.  Another caution waved on lap 13 for the 81 of Atkinson and the J5 of JP Brantley who were racing for the lead, setting up a green, white, checkerd finish.  On the final lap the 62 of Jason Adams would get into the 71 of Robbie Causby in turn four, sending both cars spinning.  James Bailey would take the checkers, his first of the season.  Chris Collins after a hard crash the week before would come home second, followed by Lee Hardie, Cody Wilson, and Bobby Crawford rounding out the top five.

The final event of the evening was the Late Model division.  Fourteen drivers signed in to battle for 30 laps.  The front row was set by qualifying.  On the pole was the 121 of Louisburg’s Damon Kotke who turned a lap of 14.741 seconds alongside was Greensboro’s Daniel Tucker.  At the drop of the green flag it would be Kotke who would take the lead, until bringing out the first caution by spinning on lap 5.  The field would go caution free the rest of the way.  Christian Joyner would take home his second straight victory and third of the season.  Daniel Tucker came home second followed by Michael Batten, William Carroll, and Derek Francis rounding out the top five.
