With perfect weather, 79 cars signed in for an awesome night of racing. I mean, really! We had twin Pure Stock 4 races; we had the Thunder & Lightning guys with their special race. Man! It was a perfect combination!!

Up first, the Thunder & Lightning guys would line up for their feature with the L3 of Skeeter Liles on the pole, and the 21 of Michael Batten on the outside. The 21 would take the point coming out of 2 followed by the 95 of JP Cascell and lead the field until a spin in turn 2 would relegate him to the rear of the field. Hated to see it because he was flat hauling!! On lap 16, the red flag would come out for the 14 of Toby Hoyle when his motor exploded after the start/finish line. A fireball erupted from the car, but luckily Toby escaped without harm, and after track staff picked up parts of the motor & transmission, the green flag would come back out with the L3 still out front. As the checkered fell, it would be the L3 bringing home his 6th win of 2010. He was followed by Luke Owens, Buddy Isles, Jr., Allan Worrells & Joey Cascell.

The first race for the Pure Stock 4 class would see the 18 of Will Markham on the pole with the 9 of Michael Webb on the outside. Webb would take the lead and develop a decent distance between him & second place Markham. Brandon Whitley & Gary Dillon were 2nd & 3rd respectively, but it was all Webb out front. Markham & Whitley would fall prey to Dillon as he passed them after several laps of battling, finally getting a chance to challenge for the lead. With 3 to go, Dillon would drive around Webb on the outside and go on to win this first of two PS4 races. He was followed by Webb, James Manning, Brandon Whitley & Will Markham.

The late models, who ran 2 heat races instead of their normal 2 laps of qualifying, would see the 11S of Neal Sykes on the pole & Damon Kotke in the 02 in 2nd. Neal Sykes would take the point coming out of two with Damon challenging hard. Damon was looking on the inside when the caution flew for Chris Mabe. Christian Thomas passed Roger Lucas for 3rd spot but out front it was all Sykes. The top 5 cars really put on a great show & by the halfway mark, any of these guys could've got the win. Sykes was finally able to put some daylight between him & Kotke, and Buddy Isles, Jr was putting the pressure on him for 2nd. As Sykes hugged the bottom groove of the race track and continued to pull away, but Kotke was a man on a mission & finally started gaining ground. Coming to the line with 5 to go Damon found the groove he needed to get around Sykes and took over the lead and was pulling away! Taking the checkers for his first win of 2010, Damon Kotke!! He was followed by Neal Sykes, Buddy Isles, Jr, Roger Lucas & Christian Thomas.

The Pure Stock V8 class would line up next with the 20 of James Meredith on the pole & Jerry Williams in the 44 in 2nd. Nute Hill driving the 22 Bray's Auto car would lose the motor in turn 3 bringing out the caution & James Meredith would bring out the caution again on lap 6 when his right rear fell off. Jerry Williams and Bryce Pearson would battle hard for the win, but it wold be Williams bringing home the win. He was followed by Pearson, Dennis Kearney, David Foreman & Paul Peele.

Our very popular Super Stock 4 class, with the 45 of Kyle Barnes & 34 of Rayford Chamblee on the front row, would take the green next, and Rayford would take the lead after problems for the pole sitter on the backstretch. Several cautions would plague the leader, but he would persevere bringing home the win. Luckily for Rayford, no extracurricular activities occurred this week & after passing tech, celebrated in victory lane with friends & crew. He was followed by Bill Winstead, Brian Medlin, Runt Skinner & Johnny Edwards. Let's all remember to keep Andy Ross & Family in our prayers as his father is in critical condition.

Our last event, the second Pure Stock 4 feature of the night, would see the J2 of James Manning on the pole with Michael Webb to his outside. Lots of shuffling for position took place all through this race, and if you missed it, man! Gary Dillon would shoot to the lead from his 4th place starting position & bring home his 2nd win of the night. He was followed by Brandon Whitley, Michael Webb, Gary Whitley & Jeremy Benson.

Clay is a 10 year old little boy from Kenly who suffers from Hypoxic Brain Injury. County Line Raceway has joined forces with the Friends 4 Clay group & we are helping Clay & his family raise money for a wheelchair lift for their van, among other medical bills they have. We will be having a 50/50 drawing with the tracks part going to the family. We will have collection jars set up at the entrance to the grandstands, pit gate & pay out window. (possibly concession stands, but I'll have to get back with you on that) We will have people set up selling t shirts for Clay, they will also be going through the pit area as well. We are requesting all drivers to bring their helmets to the stands and collect donations. Anything you can do, your help with this will be greatly appreciated. If you own a business & want to sponsor some t shirts, let me know. If you just want to help the family out with a couple of bucks, let me know. If you have a service you think this family could benefit from, let me know!! Clay's mom, Annette, and his dad Rodney, along with his sister's Brittany & Hailey devote all of their free time to caring for Clay. So if you own a hair salon & want to donate 3 haircuts for his mom & sisters, let me know. If you know someone who can give a certificate for a massage or facial, let me know. Same with his dad. If you know of someone who has a boat & can take him out fishing for a couple of hours, let me know. His medical insurance doesn't cover a lot of things he really needs, especially a wheelchair lift for their van. Folks, this is a local family in dire need of our help. We, the racing community, need to do all we can to help. Please show your support by coming out next week & giving as much as you can.
I am also working on getting stickers made to sell at the track as well, with all proceeds going to Clay & his family. If you're interested in making these at no cost, let me know & I'll get you the info. These will also be for sale at various locations from Rocky Mount to Wilson to Bailey to Middlesex to Kenly..AND BEYOND!!
Also, the organization is in need of a website & webmaster willing to donate their skills and time to keep it updated with info & photo's of Clay and events we have for him.
Please feel free to spread the word to everyone you know who may want to help!!

August 21 - Friends for Clay Night

August 21 we will be raising money to help a special family. Below is a short story about why we are trying to help them out.

I am Clayton Lewis Glover and I am 10 years old. I am alive and well inside a little body that does not function. I have been diagnosed with Hypoxic Brain Injury.
This means: Hypoxia brain injury is a condition that refers to a severe decrease of oxygen supplied to the brain, even though there is sufficient blood flow. This condition may be caused by a blockage in the respiratory tract or airways brought about by near drowning.
It is very important for the brain to have adequate supply of oxygen. Oxygen deprivation in brain cells can lead to tragic consequences within minutes. If the lack or absence of oxygen lasts longer, the brain cannot respond to stimuli, which leads to seizures, unconsciousness, coma and brain death. When brain death happens, basic life functions such as breathing, homeostasis, blood circulation and maintenance of blood pressure, along with other cardiac functions are preserved, but then the patient would already be unresponsive and unconscious of everything.
The recovery and rehabilitation of patients highly depend on the duration of oxygen deprivation the brain endured and on how much degeneration of brain cells occurred. Most patients who had suffered from hypoxia and recovered fully had only been unconscious for a short time. If they had been unconscious for a longer period of time, the chance of brain death or even death resulting from the episode is reasonably higher and the chance of full recovery lower.
It was an accident. I was 18 months old when I fell into a pool on February 2, 2002. My Mommy found me face up in the pool minutes later and the firemen next door helped my Mom try to save me. A helicopter took me to the hospital. I lived against the odds. I stayed in the hospital from February 2, 2002 – March 26, 2002. My Mommy was told to make funeral arrangements but she knew that I was coming back home with her - so she did not listen. My Mommy has given up a lot to be with me 24 hours a day for the last 8 years. It wasn't her fault. It was an accident. God kept me here with her for a reason. My Mommy says I am a blessing to her and my family.
My sisters, Hailey and Brittany love me a lot and I am my daddy's little buddy. My daddy works a lot so that my family can have the things we need and the things that I require. I have to have 24 hour care. I have a tracheotomy in my throat and a feeding tube to supply my nourishment. My mouth has to be suctioned out constantly. My sight is limited but I see a little from the side - so I can see you a little. My hearing is exceptional, so careful, I hear everything you say. I communicate with my tongue. I move it a lot when I am excited or when the answer is yes. I move it just a little when I am sad, or the answer is no or... I am just tired.
Treat me like I am a normal boy – if my body worked I could run and play just like other 10 year old boys and girls. My body is broken but my spirit is not so do not feel sorry for me - just love me the way I am. If I could talk, the first thing I would say is thank you for helping my Mommy, Sisters, Daddy and Me to have the things that make life easier for us.

Please note: There are legal bindings that prohibit the Glover Family from talking openly about specific details of Clay's tragic accident.
